Horse breeding is the reproduction of horses by a process of selective breeding of purebred horses and another given breed. These are done to produce a desired breed of horse with its expected characteristics. At present, horse breeding uses different modern techniques and the most advanced technologies for conception, pregnancy, and foaling. All these are part of the horse racing system and the horse racing results are dependent on how well the owner has bred and trained a horse. Thus, the most important horse racing tips are about the breed and the training of the horse.

Horse breeding begun in the late 1600s when Charles II regained the British throne and horse breeding was revived. With the revival of the horseracing the thoroughbred horse was bred 40 years afterwards. The thoroughbred horses are the ones from the lineage of the 3 Arabian stallions brought to England by the Knights as they returned from the crusades. These thoroughbred horses soon became popular for their extraordinary speed.

Then in 1700s, Lord Monboddo James Burnett made not of the importance of selecting the right parentage in order to have a good generation of thoroughbreds. His work became the basis of breeding during those times. Then by the late 1700s the breeding hub of thoroughbreds in Lexington, Kentucky was developed. This became the foundation of the American racehorse breeding.

By the 17th and 18th century, Europe also saw an increasing demand for carriage horses. This brought the breeding of warmblood horses. These horses were bred for carriages but by the 1900s they were seen in other horseracing events, such as the show jumping and dressage. The American Quarter Horse was also developed by the 1700s for the short race, the quarter race. These horses were very fast for sprint race and some were even timed at 55 mph. Later on, the Quarter horse was used in for herding cattle and another type of race, the stock horse type race, was soon developed.

Despite the successful breeding of horses over the years, the thoroughbred still dominates the horse racing world today. It is still considered as the fastest and the most regal horse there is. In other words, it is still the one considered as the champion breed.
